Villamartín - Cádiz

The town of Villamartín is the junction of the Communications in the Sierra de Cádiz. From here leaves three branches that constitutes the Ruta de los Pueblos Blancos: 
 
South-western Route towards Arcos.  
South-eastern Route towards Ubrique.  
North-eastern Route towards Olvera. 
 
To 75 Kilometres from Sevilla, 80 Kilometres from Cádiz and 60 Kilometres from Ronda, Villamartín is the centre of Communications by road and the natural joint route of Sevilla, Cádiz and Málaga.

At north Villamartín borders on Utrera and El Coronil, and on Espera, Bornos, Arcos de la Frontera, Prado del Rey, Algodonales and Puerto Serrano, in the rest of its outskirts, from west to east.  
 
Villamartín has had a constant population from the Prehistory, like it is proved in the dolmens of Alberite, declared by the Junta de Andalucía Bien de Interés Cultural (Culturally Interesting).

At the beginning of the VIII century, the territories where nowadays is placed the town fell into the Muslim conquerors, who would build the castle of Matreta for their defence; a fortress that would be taken by the Christians in 1342 and given, with their dominions, by the king Alfonso XI to the town of Sevilla.

The true history of this town starts in the XVI century, when it starts the argument of Matrera among the inhabitants of Villamartín and the Cabildo Sevilla, this lasted until 1818 with the decision of returning to Villamartín its lands and the product that received from the Campo de Matrera for 300 years, although the judgment benefited a small number of inhabitants but to the majority disadvantage.

Gastronomy

The sweets such as the cream puffs, known as "cuerno", are part of its native gastronomy. We also can taste good bread rolls and quince jelly.

How to get there

The CN-342 (Jerez-Cartagena), called A-382 in the stretch Jerez-Antequera, it is crossed with the A-376, that links Sevilla with La Costa del Sol. 
 
The A-371 (Villamartín-Las Cabezas de San Juan) is the natural intersection with the Motorway A-4 (Sevilla-Cádiz) and the N-IV (Madrid-Cádiz)  
 
The A-373 (Villamartín-Gaucín) is the access to the Nature Reserve of La Sierra de Grazalema and to the Nature Reserve of Cortes de la Frontera.
