Turon

Turon is situated in the southeastern part of the Alpujarra Granadina (Granada province), about 114 km from the provincial capital, in southeastern Spain. The town borders the Granadina municipalities of Murtas and Albuñol and the municipalities of Almeria in Alcolea, Berja and Adra.

It appears that the Romans gave it the name of Turobriga and exploited its lead mines.
During the Muslim rule a thriving agriculture was developed. After the expulsion of the Moors in the late sixteenth century, these regions, as with others of the ancient kingdom of Granada, having become depopulated, were repopulated with settlers from Galicia, León, Asturias and Castilla.

Gastronomy
Typical of the town are embutidos (local sausages) as well other pork products and game dishes, to make up the Touraine culinary scene. They also produce almonds, figs, olives and vineyards. The gastronomic jewel of Turon is fig bread.

From Granada: Take N-323 south (towards Motril). After about 37 km take the exit towards Lanjaron. Continue this road until you reach Órgiva. Take A-4131. Take GR-5206. Take A-4131. Turn left: GR-5204. Turn Left: A-345. Take GR-5202. Turn right: GR-6202. Arrive at Turon.
