Santa Fe
Santa Fe is in the province of Granada in the autonomous community of Andalucia, Spain. Situated in the Vega of Granada and crossed by the river Genil from east to west, the town is almost completely flat and has no high mountains. Distance to 11 km. It comprises three towns: Santa Fe, El Jau (population about 800) and Pedro Ruiz (population about 250).
Santa Fe was founded by the Catholic Monarchs in 1491. Originally a military camp, little remains of the former military building which was of a quadrangular shape and consisted of: Towers, canvas walls, moats, a barrack square or parade ground and four gates, one on each side of the polygon.
In Santa Fe a definitive agreement was reached between the Catholic Kings and Christopher Columbus.

The cuisine of this city of Granada is based on the excellent vegetables and fruits from the orchards of the valley. Traditional in Santa Fe are dishes prepared with thyme and herbs, as well as the iconic candy of Santa Fe, the piononos, cakes ‘ bizcocho borracho’ with cream, topped with candied sugar, created by Ceferino Isla in honor of Pope Pius IX.
