Convent of Santo Domingo

Dedicated to San Pedro Martyr (Saint Peter the Martyr), it was constructed by the Dominican Order and is one of the two convents founded by the Catholic Monarchs after the conquest of the city in 1485. I n the 16th Century, the Inquisition Court was headquarter in these premises.

It boasts various styles, such as Gothic, Renaissance and Mudejar. The rectangular church has three naves, of which the central one is the widest and highest. Its ceiling is of a Mudejar framework, with jointed rafters. The side naves are roofed by vaults of various styles.

The doorway is situated on one side and is of a simple style, made of stone and with a Gothic arch and heraldic emblems alluding to the Dominican Order.

The cloister, from the second half of the 17th Century, boasts wide, semicircular, grooved brick arches resting on smooth columns with Corinthian capitals
