Puerto Serrano - Cádiz

Puerto Serrano has approximately 7.000 inhabitants. It is white, calm and hospitable and located between the Andalusian and Cádiz sierras and Guadalete River, what provides it a great landscape wealth and many beautiful and natural places. Puerto Serrano is included in the Route of the White Villages.

As regards to the history of Puerto Serrano, we can find many traces of ancient settlements.
The necropolis of artificial caves corresponding to II millennium B.C dates from the Bronze Age.

From the Roman city called Marciago comes from important archaeological remains, such as the sculpture of the god Atis, columns of red marble, mosaics and 28 official roman denarius found in the town and whose chronology located them between the 149 and the 77 B.C. In the same way, there are remains of many "villae" (farms) and the necropolis that occupied several hectares.

From hispanomoslem age remains even ancient fortifications (Gailir, El Castellar, and Pozo Amargo) and some farmhouses with storage systems (silos) are still preserved.
In 1835, after a long dispute, it obtains the Independence of Morón de la Frontera.

The columns with red marble coming from the pits of the city centre and the paintings with a baroque style of XVII century from the Sevillano School of Alonso Cano are very interesting.)
