Guadaiza Dam and Reservoir
The Guadaiza reservoir is located between the coastal towns of Marbella and Benahavis, just few minutes from San Pedro de Alcantara. The Guadaiza Dam is situated in the Guadaiza river, near the Loma of Hives (Loma de las Colmenas).
The Guadaiza river runs saws down starting from the Port of Trincheruelas by a landscape of great beauty and lush vegetation.
Other places near the river with natural important for its fauna and vegetation can be the Sierra de las Apretaderas, the Ravine of the Chaparreras, El Pimpollar, the Glen of the Horn, Umbria's Guadaiza, and so on.
Wildlife: snakes, lizards, dragonflies, galapagos, frogs, martin fisherman, mallards, the Blenio river or fish friar, and so on.
Flora: oaks, gall oaks, pines, ferns, brooms, etc., etc.
The purpose of this dam is to capture the water from the river Guadaiza, its small streams and tributaries stream and transport it through a tunnel with a capacity of 16 m3 / s and length of 9.5 km to the in Marbella. This is called a "Bypass Dam"
The Guadaiza Dam also collects the water from the Guadalmina and Guadalmansa rivers.

The reservoir basin covers an area of 40 km. The Guadaiza dam transferred approximately 12 Hm3./year of water to in Marbella.
