Beznar Dam & Reservoir
El Pinar - Lecrín - Granada
Béznar Dam is located on the izbor River, a main tributary of the Guadalfeo river, which ends on Lecrín Valley, in the municipalities of El Pinar and Lecrín, in the province of Granada.
Beznar Dam has a threefold purpose:
- Protection against floods in the basin.
- Improve irrigation in the coastal area, with about 5,000 hectares (subtropical fruits products)
- Supply of drinking water to the coast villages
Besides ensuring the concession flow to the hydroelectric power station of Izbor.
Its use will be completed with the Rules Reservoir, in the Guadalfeo river, whose dam is currently under construction.
The type of the Beznar Dam is Vault with double curvature, with gravity stirrups, has a coronation cota of 488.80 meters, a height from foundation of 134 m and a height above the bed of 110 m. The dam has a coronation length of 408 m.
The Beznar dam basin covers an area of 352 km2 with an average annual rainfall of 680 mm. Its average annual contribution is 56 hm3.
The Beznar reservoir has a Cota of 485 msnm, a volume of 54 hm3 and a surface of 170 hectares. The length of the river affected is 4.4 km. |
