Pedro Martínez
Pedro Martinez can be found to the northwest of the province of Granada, in the Eastern Mountains, 76km from the capital, 90km from , 436km from Madrid and 40 km from Iznalloz. It is bordered to the north by , to the west by Guadahortuna, Torre Cardela and Gobernador, to the south by Fonelas and Huelago and to the east by and Villanueva.
Pedro Martinez was a frontier zone during the Middle Ages, and frequently suffered the Christian "cabalgadas", incursions of harassment and violence that Castilian riders stationed in made on the Muslim territory of Guadix. These “cabalgadas” were the precursors to the conquest of Granada, which was conquered by the Catholic Monarchs.
Its name comes from the captain of the armies of the Duke of Gor, who conquered the territory. The Duke ceded the territory to captain Don Pedro Martínez, who built the first house. The workers of the land became the first tenant farmers of the area.
After the Confiscation of Mendizabal, the town became an independent municipality.

Pedro Martinez's cuisine boasts a consistently popular and nutritious cuisine based on traditional dishes such as vegetable soups, los hormigos, los andrajos, migas, (a casserole of meat and breadcrumbs,) las gachas, (a kind of porridge,) tarvinas, which is made from flour and water formed into a dough.
