Parauta - Málaga

The village of Parauta dates from the Muslim era, there are still certain features of these times stage in the town and its history parallels that of Ronda and other towns which grew up in this southern part of the Serrania.

In the ancient Hisn Autha, in a nearby farmstead called Torrichela, it is believed was born, about the year 854, Omar Ben Hafsun, leader of the widespread Moorish rebellion in almost all Andalusia and whose kingdom, independent of the Caliphate of Córdoba, lasted until his death. Other authors place the birth of Omar Ben Hafsun in different municipalities of the province.

The conquest by the Catholic Monarchs took place at the same time as that of Ronda and from that moment there was a demographic decline of the Moorish population, because of deaths from the rebellions or non-acceptance of the status of the Moors involved in the relentless process of conversion. The region was later repopulated by Old Christians
The municipal area of Parauta extends along the southern slope of the Sierra Oreganal to the north of the Genal Valley. It is bordered to the east by the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park within which area lie the natural parks of Conejeras and Madroñales and the Nava de San Luis. Very near here we find the important ‘pinsapar de Parauta’, on the north side of the cerro de Alcojona, at1,440 metres altitude. In the surrounding area of Parauta theParauta Town Hall country is a mix of the gray hills of the mountains and the green of the pines, oaks, olive and chestnut trees which cover the hills of Valle del Genal.

Parauta stands 800 metres above sea level and is 105 kilometres from the capital of the province . The area's average annual rainfall is 1,300 l/m2 and the average temperature approaches 14 º C.
