Órgiva

Orgiva is an Andalusian town situated in the southwestern part of the ‘Alpujarra Granadina’ (province of Granada ), in southeastern Spain. The town of Orgiva is within the Sierra Nevada Natural Park . Despite having just over 5,000 inhabitants, it is the most populous municipality in the whole region. It borders the municipalities of Cáñar, Carataunas, Pampaneira, La Taha, Torvizcón, Rubiter, Lújar, Vélez de Benaudalla, El Pinar and Lanjaron. The old town of Alcázar, including the villages of Fregenite, Olias and Bargis were integrated into Orgiva.
Órgiva was known as ‘Exoche’ to the Greeks and ‘Albastch Orgiva’ during the time of the Arabs.

After the Christian reconquest the Lordship of Órgiva was given by Ferdinand and Isabella's to the Christian children of Abu-l-Hasan (Muley Hacen) ... ‘later was recovered by the Crown of Castile after the first rebellion of the Alpujarras Muslims and granted to the Gran Capitan.’Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Expectación.
