Montizón

Montizón is located to the north of El Condado, in the provincial border with Ciudad Real, at the north easternmost point of Sierra Morena. The enclaves with environmental interest are abundant, preserving good examples of Mediterranean ecosystem. The environment of the reservoir of El Dañador is the most natural interesting and recreational spot of Montizón, locality that was founded in XVIII century, turning into capital of Feligresía de las Nuevas Poblaciones.

The history of Montizón starts in 1767, dates in which it was founded by Pablo Olavide, quartermaster of Carlos III. It belonged to the colonization plan of Sierra Morena that had as its objective the security of the way of Andalucía with La Mancha, where the bandits assaulted the pack trains that transported the goods from one region to another. The first settlers who inhabited Montizón were Central European: Germans, Flemish, Swiss, Alsatians, French and Italian; who were provided with a house, yoke farming implements and several fanegas (land measure) of mountain land for the cereal crop and olive grove reforestation.
