Monda - Málaga

Monda is located to 15 Kilometres from Marbella, in the Comarca de la Sierra de las Nieves, declared Reserva de la Biosfera by the UNESCO in 1995, due to the beauty of its landscapes, full of a varied fauna and flora, among them we can emphasize holm oaks, cork oaks and Spanish firs.

The town of Monda is settled down the hillside of the hill called Villeta, where it is located the fortress of al-Mundat (nowadays it is a luxury hotel), that was built in the IX century by Omar Ben Hafsún, muladi rebel leader.

We can observe its white hamlet, its labyrinthine and narrow streets, together with its fountains, that evoke the important Islamic past of the municipality, whose streets are decorated with fragrant and colour flowers in spring such as geraniums, carnations and gitanillas (an herbaceous annual plant).

Monda is located to 380 metres above sea level. Its annual average precipitation is 700 l/m2 and the temperature is 17º C

As for the confectionery in Monda, we can emphasize its traditional bread rolls made by its inhabitants.

How to get there

From Málaga you have to take the A-357 until Cártama, and from this town you Access to the Motorway A-355 until Coín, where it links with the A-366 towards Alhaurín el Grande. When you have covered 2,5 kilometres, you have to take the A-355 again, that leads you to Monda. You have to pass from the A-355 to the A-366 and again to the A-355 because there is a section in roadworks, and when they have finished there will be no need to take the A-366. From Marbella you have to take the A-355, which in this case it comes out onto Monda.
