Monachil

Monachil is situated in the south-central part of the Vega of Granada (province of Granada), about 8 km from the capital city of Granada, in southern Spain. It borders the municipalities of Huetor Vega , Cenes de la Vega, Pinos Genil, Güéjar Sierra, Dílar, La Zubia and Cájar. Here you can find the ski resort of the Sierra Nevadas.

The earliest settlement of Monachil goes back to the Culture of Argar, within the Bronze Age, and is within a time period that extends from the year 1900 to 900 BC. The certainty of this Argaric past is shown by a series of deposits and remains, of which the most significant is the Cerro de la Encina, where there was an important settlement consisting of a village and a fort.
