During the Roman period it appears as Lauro, settlement with recreational purposes and possibly linked to Ostipo and Ventipo.
In the period of Al-Andalus it was called Al-Auria and enjoyed a certain importance.
From the Christian conquest until the XVI century, when Philip II gave it to Don Adán Centurión and Ultramarino, it belonged to the Military Order of Santiago.
