Lora de Estepa - Sevilla

In the easternmost province of Sevilla, inside the Southern Highlands and, in particular, in the region of Sierra de Estepa, is located the town of Lora de Estepa, leaning on the route connecting the provinces of Sevilla and Málaga.

This is undoubtedly one of the less populous municipalities in the province, as it stood at 1,996 in 741 inhabitants. All of them are grouped in the central area, which is to 116 kilometres from the capital and located at an altitude of 447 metres above sea level.

During the Roman period it appears as Lauro, settlement with recreational purposes and possibly linked to Ostipo and Ventipo.

In the period of Al-Andalus it was called Al-Auria and enjoyed a certain importance.
From the Christian conquest until the XVI century, when Philip II gave it to Don Adán Centurión and Ultramarino, it belonged to the Military Order of Santiago.

The present settlement dates from the late XVI and early XVII centuries.

It was linked to the Marquis of Estepa until the year 1837, year in which the domains were abolished.
