Lanjarón

The municipality of Lanjarón can be found in the province of Granada , about 44 km from the capital, on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevadas and is part of the Natural Park , in the region of Las Alpujarras, near the Valle de Lecrín. It is approximately halfway between Granada and the Costa Tropical.

The municipality borders the municipalities of Dílar, Capileira, Bubión, Canar, Orgiva, El Pinar, Lecrín, Nigüelas and Dúrcal.

Although its origin is in the Roman era, Lanjaron is better known for its Arab domination. It was conquered by Ferdinand the Catholic on his way to Granada. Years later, during the rebellion of the Moors in the Alpujarras, it was he who had to come to quell the uprisings in Lanjarón personally because of the ferocity of the Moorish defense.

Lanjarón has the essential characteristics that define the image of the Alpujarra villages, unique architecture in their homes, with narrow, winding streets perfectly adapted to the rough terrain and climate of the area, and where the memory lingers of the Moorish past .
Lanjarón is also, because of its location, the western entrance to the Alpujarras ‘Granadina’ and a natural route between the Sierra Nevadas and the Mediterranean coast.

The town of Lanjaron is famous the quality of its waters, and is one of the most recognized resorts in Spain. Although the quality of its healing waters has been known and recognised since ancient times, it was in the 19th century that special notice was taken of these qualities.
