Júzcar - Málaga
Serranía de Ronda

Júzcar is located in the Region of Serranía de Ronda, in the part of the upper Genal, closet o the peak Jarastepar, with a height of 1425 metres and bordering with Estepona and Benahavís. Because of its geographical situation Júzcar has a varied vegetation, consisting of rocky places from the Sierra del Oregal, chestnut graves and pine groves from Sierra Bermeja; we can observe nearer the village tickets, pine trees and Holm oaks which spread closet o the pastures of the Lomas and the Cerro del Jardón with a height of more than 1000 metres.

This orography which is so irregular constitutes the structure of Júzcar. Like many other villages of the serranía, its White houses over the hillock are situated very close between them, with big slopes and above all we can stand out the chimneys over the unequal roofs.

It is possibly that Júzcar was a settlement before Arab age but it does not exist historic documents that prove it. Because of the phisiognomy of the village presumably Arabs gave Júzcar a rural importance. It seems that after Christian reconquest the little villages of the area were deserted because of the expulsion of the Moorish from the place and people were grouped together to form Júzcar and erected the Parish Church in1505.

Júzcar had a huge importance in the region and to its jurisdiction belonged Faraján and Alcapana, Capanza, Moclón, La Fábrica and Los Molinos according to the information of Pascual Madoz in his Geographical-statistical-historic Dictionary of Spain (1845-50).

Gastronomy

In Júzcar we can find its serranas stews and the mixed chickpeas stews, like its stews of rabbit and many dishes and sausages that come from the pig, but we cannot forget the own products of Júzcar such as the mushrooms, the young garlic or leeks.

In Júzcar it is also very important the "slaughtering products".
