Gaucín - Málaga
Gaucín is the first village of the Serranía de Ronda that we find in the road that joins Campo de Gibraltar with Ciudad del Tajo, it has all the delight of the white villages that are located in the slopes of the mountains which takes refuge the river Genal. Gaucín has one of the most varied landscapes in the province, you will find cork trees, holms oaks and copses of pines, and there is also formations of shrubs mixed with chestnuts and wild olive-trees, besides its vegetable gardens and county houses close to the varied vegetation of its banks.
The township of Gaucín borders on and , to the North and West respectively, and with lands of Casares to the East, being its Jimena de la Frontera its adjacent to the South and South-West.
The village is located in the watercourse of del Hacho, under the Águila Castle, which had a huge strategic value because together with Gibraltar, it was the protection of the south access. Although it was built by Romans, Arabs were the ones who left more traces in the area. Its streets, with a Moorish design, adapt with ease to the hill and its White houses are decorated with bars and balconies thanks to the forge craftsmen. With regard to its monuments we can point up its Church de San Sebastián (XVI century), convent of Carmelitas, the Fountain of Six Jets, in addition to several feudal houses (XVII – XVIII centuries), with lintel-like doors and noble shields sculpted in stone.

Gastronomy
In Gaucín like in the rest of the villages Valle del Genal, the gastronomy has a long tradition that combines products of the land with the food diet depending on the seasonal nature. In spring it is cooked stews with wild herbs such as golden thistle, fennels, corn salads or wild asparagus. During all the year we can taste serranas’ stews and chickpeas stews, and, among the meats, cooked dishes of rabbit and a huge variety of dishes and sausages from the pork.
The products of the vegetable garden have an important role, the Valley of Genal gives to its villages a great variety of greens, vegetables and fresh fruits.
The confectionery has a great Moorish tradition, being typical the wheat flour, sugar and olive oil sweet-scented with cinnamon, aniseed and sesame, and sometimes with almonds and nuts.
How to get there
From Costa del Sol, by the Motorway AP-7 (N-340), off Manilva, you enter the road A-377, that leads to Gaucín. If the travel starts in Ronda, you have to take, the road A-369 when you have left this village that also goes to Gaucín.
