Fuerte del Rey

Fuerte del Rey is to 16 kilometres from the capital, in the local road that joins Jaén with Andújar and in the media countryside of the Guadalquivir. It is a town with one thousand inhabitants that borders on Jaén, Higuera de Arjona, Villanueva de la Reina, Cazalilla and Torredelcampo. It is at 431 metres above sea level and it has an area of 34 km2 being part of the administrative area in Jaén.

These lands, where the Condestable Lucas de Iranzo liked stopping, were always a royal place, from there its name, except some years of the last XVII century when they were sold to the lordship of Torredelcampo.

In 1804 took place the independence of this town.
