Fines

Villa is located in the Valle del Almanzora, in the area of the marble, the main economic activity of this and all surrounding villages. The surrounding lands are cultivated with cereals, corn, olive trees and vineyards. We have to emphasize the urban Parish Church, of Mudejar style.

With respect of the historical-cultural aspects in Fines, we can point out that El Tuzani, protagonist of the work of Ginés  Pérez de Hita, History of the sides Zegríes and Abencerrajes or History of the civil wars of Granada, was a native of this town and is known for being tried on charges of having facilitated the escape of the Moors from Tíjola and killing in a duel to the Christian who killed his beloved, but he was absolved and, converted to Christianity, ending his days in Cehegín.

About this Moor the writer Don Ginés Pastor Medina spoke in his book “La historia sentimental del morisco Tuzani”, neighbour of Fines, with a beautiful moor from Purchena. Nowadays it has been the name of this character in the Youth Association (Asociación Juvenil) of the village. There is evidence that the existence of the coat of arms of the town is not observed until the beginning of its use from January 1850; being October 9, 1876 when Mayor Don José Villarreal records it; nowadays it is possible to study it in the section of Sigilografía del Archivo Histórico Nacional, in ink municipal Shields Series.

Its structure is based on both historical and present main activities, the extraction and processing of marble, being definitely established on February 26, 1981, silver and blue lozenge with blue embroidery with three cobs of gold ordered in the two upper ends and at the bottom centre; it is stamped with a royal circular Spanish crown set with precious stones, composed of eight forones of acanthus leaves, pearls and from whose leaves come out so many diadems.

It was built, but fortunately has not lost its beauty. There also remains a coat of arms of the Alvarez family of Monteserín, protected and preserved by the Ministry of Culture of the Andalusian Government.

Arroz con conejo (Rice with rabbit). Cocido con morcilla. Migas (Fried breadcrumbs). Tortilla de Ajos (Garlic omelette). Patatas con ajo (Potatoes with garlic). Dishes cooked with products from the fertile plain.

How to get there

You have to exit Almería towards: N-340 - Murcia - Almería Round - A-92 - Granada. Take the exit towards: Salida 453 - Viátor – Base Militar La Legión - A-92 - Guadix - Granada. At the roundabout, take the salida 4 and continue along: A-92. Take the exit towards: Salida 373/376 - Tabernas - Murcia - N-340a. Pass near Tabernas, Benitorafe and Macael. Follow signs to Olula del Río. Around Olula del Rívo, turn right: A-334. Then you get in Fines.
