El Viso del Alcor - Sevilla
El Viso del Alcor is located on the left bank of the river Guadalquivir, one of the slopes of the Cordillera de Los Alcores. Among Mairena del Alcor and Carmona (villages which is only to 2 and 11 kilometres respectively), the town sits at the crest of Alcor and has a very small municipality, only 20 km2 to almost its 16,000 inhabitants.
The configuration of the territory of this region is presented in three distinct parts: to the north, the plateau formation in the Quaternary period, which is the highest part of the whole, to the south, we can observe the Vega, flat and sedimentary land; and in the midst of both the alignment of Los Alcores, all within the limits of rivers Guadaíra and Corbones, with the Guadalquivir to the north.
Its fertile soil, combined with the favourable climate and its defined geography, made this area an important location for different civilizations who from the Palaeolithic settled in Alcores.
The city was inhabited by Celts, denominating it Bassilippo.
During the Roman period it was called Visus, being an excellent place to monitor the surroundings. At this time it takes a significant importance as shown by numerous patrician villas found.
At the time of Al-Andalus its importance increases. Alcor comes from that time.
The Christian conquest was carried out by Fernando III. In 1371 it was acquired by Doña Elvira, widow of Don Gonzalo Mejia, Enrique II server.
Later it becomes independent of Carmona forming its own municipal government.
In 1496 it passed to the power of the first Count of Castellar, as the manor, remained tied to the county until the Constitution of 1812, in which the feudal courts are abolished.
It participated in the Battle of Lepanto by what Pope Pío V granted a perpetual jubilee to the Parish Church.
During the reign of Carlos III, it is built the granary or grain store, where nowadays is located the Town Hall.
