Dos Hermanas - Sevilla

The City, Judicial District and Archpriesthood of Dos Hermanas belong to the province of Sevilla, whose capital is to 12 kilometres. The municipality area covers 159.09 km2, with an average height of 42 metres above sea level, consisting of substantially flat land.

The Guadalquivir River bounded on the north and south land of the Dos Hermanas, which crosses the canal and fertilize the Lower Guadalquivir. The climate in Dos Hermanas is sunny, with a mean annual temperature of 18.7 ° and an average humidity of 56%.

The origin of Dos Hermanas backs to the city of the Turdetani city of Orippo. The township is crossed by numerous Roman roads. Many of the cottages are built on ancient Roman villas. On the mound of the Tower of Los Herberos Orippo was the old Roman Orippo. During this period it was very important, coming to mint its own currency.
During the rule of Al-Andalus it became a small village dedicated to the production of oil, wheat and grapes.

With the Christian conquest carried out by Fernando III, it was installed in the Tower of Herberos and later in the area of Cuarto. In this place took place the famous miracle of the Virgin who helped the King in a battle, a fact which led to the construction of the Chapel of Valme, which is dedicated to the Virgin with the same name. During this period it appears with the names of Fuente del Rey, or D. Pelayo or the Cerro del Cuarto.

After the Christian conquest it was given to several gentlemen, the daughters of one of them, Don Gonzalo Nazareno, according to tradition, they found the image of Santa Ana and a cross hidden five centuries ago with the Arab invasion. In honour of them it began calling Villa Nazarena and after Dos Hermanas.

In the XIX century, Dos Hermanas was a meeting place for romantic authors, such as Lamarque de Novoa and Antonio Díaz, who built his beautiful Alquería del Pilar. All around we find Mariani, Narciso Campilo, Washington Irving, the father Coloma, the painter Virgilio Mattoni. Fernán Caballero who was, however, the person that gave most famous Dos Hermanas. He lived here many years and their environment was inspired for his works, the most famous of which, "La Familia Alvareda", recounts a real event occurred in the city.
