Deifontes

Deifontes is a municipality situated on the northern part of the Vega de Granada (Granada province), about 25 km from the Capital, Granada in southeastern Spain. The town borders the municipalities of Albolote, Iznalloz, Cogollos Vega, Nívar, Güevéjar and Calicasas.

During the time of the Muslim domination it was called Dialfates (although it is more likely to have come from alfont, or the (casa de la fuente), later to be renamed (by Royal decree of the year 1903) with its current name, which comes from the Latin words Deus and Fons, which means Power of God, possibly due to the magnificent fountains of the region.
Remains of an Iberian settlement were discovered in the "Erillas" and Roman remains found in the Venta del Nacimiento.

Deifontes was the property of the Abadia del Sacromonte in Granada, by cession of the Crown of Castile after the conquest. With the seizure of Mendizabal it was sold by auction to the Countess of Antillón. In the twentieth century it acquired the consideration of independent municipality.
