Cuevas del Campo

Cuevas del Campo is a municipality located in the north-western province of Granada, in a spectacular location between natural parks: to the south the Sierra de Baza, and to the north of the Sierra de Castril and the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas. An ideal place for nature lovers who enjoy the tranquillity, who will enjoy the amazing scenery and friendly people. In the town there are many houses cave dug in the clay ground, where live a good part of the population.

Cuevas del Campo belonged to local administrative Zújar, which was a segregated town in 1981. Its land shares history with the other municipality, which actively participated in the general uprising of the Moors in 1568. After the defeat of the rebels and the exile, in 1570, the Moors will be repopulated with Christian settlers from Castile and Galicia. There is still a vast area of caves built, possibly in the XVI century, by the Moorish population expelled to sneak back.

Gachas de maíz, migas de harina, pimentón de patas de cerdo, olla de "segaores", gurupina, pepitoria de gallina, gachastortas, cocido de legumbres, gurullos, "fritá" de tomate con pimiento asados, patatas " a lo pobre" and the delicious homemade sausages.

How to get there

You have to exit Granada. At the roundabout, take the salida 2 and continue along: E-902 / A-44 towards: Armilla - Motril. Follow towards: Salida 118 - A-92 - Almería - Murcia - Málaga - Algeciras - N-432 - Córdoba - Aeropuerto. Follow towards Almería - Murcia. Continue along: A-92. Take the exit towards: Salida 295 - Baza - Murcia. Take A-92N. Take the exit towards: Salida 335 - Zújar - Cuevas del Campo - Pozo Alcón. At the roundabout, take the salida 2 and continue along: A-315 towards: A-92N, Guadix - Granada. Then you get Cuevas del Campo.
