CASA RURAL (COTTAGE)
FUENTE OBEJUNA - CÓRDOBA - ANDALUCÍA - SPAIN

The house was built in the late nineteenth century, located in the municipality of Fuente Obejuna in the northern province of Cordoba. It stands at an altitude of 726 metres, and is surrounded by a spectacular oak woods. Its situation, in the center of the Alto Guadiato, means it is very well connected, being equidistant from the towns of Fuente Obejuna, Belmez and Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo and only 20 km from the natural park of the Sierra de Hornachuelos.

It is located in a spot with a beauty still unsurpassed amongst the few places in the landscape that remain untouched in terms of overcrowding and the character of its inhabitants.

The house was built with materials typical of the era; stone, brick and mud walls, with a structure of wooden poles covered with poplar and pine.

After an extensive restoration that lasted a year and a half, the house became known as a Casa Rural (Cottage), taking the nickname of the first owner El Coronel (Colonel). Steeped in history it has become a reference point for the area, becoming one of the most important in the province of Cordoba, and being listed by the Junta de Andalucia as Categoría Superior (Higher Category). It was the first in Cordoba to apply for and receive this status. It has been visited by numerous celebrities and countless real lovers of authenticity, exceeding all expectations of a rural home. Due to its unique character many local events have been held in the house, such as the fiesta del pan, development group meetings, performances, etc...

THE HOUSE

It is located right at the west entrance to the village and the building occupies an area of approximately 450 square metres.

It is built in three sections and over two floors, typical of the area with an annex of two longitudinal salons, antique wine cellar, "doblao" now converted into a kitchen of 50m, and a library and recreation room of about 50m.

The main body comprises:

Ground Floor:

Entry hall

Four bedrooms

Salon leading to the bedrooms, with china cabinets and a large fireplace

Two full bathrooms

Hall leading to the first patio.

First Floor

Salon leading to bedrooms

Four bedrooms

Three bathrooms, two of them en suite

The Annex consists of

Ground Floor:

Salon of 50m2 converted into a kitchen with lounge and fireplace.

First Floor:

Lounge and library.

The main body and annex are connected, with clearly differentiated zones for relaxation and leisure, ensuring the use of both.

Patios

It has three patios:

The first one is just off the main body of the house and is presided over by two monumental palms and decorated with vines, lemon trees, rose bushes and lilac, giving a unique feeling of peace.

The second patio is located at the exit to the annex and is connected by a gate to the first patio. This second patio has an old wood-burning oven in perfect working condition and a covered barbecue area, a toilet, and a unit where you can find the washer, dryer, controls for the main water supply to the house, and cleaning and home maintenance supplies.

The third courtyard is located in the same enclosure, is separated by a gate and fencing, and houses the pool which is 7.5 x 3.5 metres.

Within the same complex there is another building that was once the stables, and now after a well thought out restoration has become a beautiful apartment consisting of kitchen, bathroom, and lounge on the ground floor and bedroom and solarium on the first floor. This apartment, being separate from the main body of the house, is ideal as housing for those wishing to use the main building for business purposes. This building is accessed from the first and second patios.

It has a separate exit onto another street.

The roof has been done perfectly with precious materials such as Arab tiles (cleaned and treated) which create a beautiful roof in the form of "cola de pavo" (turkey tail).

The house is fully equipped, with both kitchenware and linen, as well as appliances, and has been decorated with care, being for many people like a small ethnographic museum, where farm tools and other such objects adorn the walls and patios.

The furniture is from the 40s or 50s,  with beds of wrought iron and brass, restored antique wooden cabinets, tables, chairs, and items such as a trail gate or a trough used to make tables, making original furniture, both beautiful and practical.

The house is built over approximately 450m2

The house has a loyal clientele and is well known both in and out of the area, it is ideal for starting a business and living from and in.

Environment

Set in the midst of a spectacular oak woods, it is surrounded by a multitude of paths which are ideal for sports such as hiking, biking, 4X4 trails etc ... these paths are interconnected with other villages, making it into a journey where you can discover the beauty of its nature. Sports such as hunting and fishing have many followers as some of the major hunting farms on the peninsula are here, such as La Solana and La Utrera. Just 10 minutes away is the Sierra Bollera swamp which is famous for the large carp and catfish caught there.

Climbing areas, archaeological, geological and ethnographic museums and beautiful monuments are all things that can be found in Fuente Obejuna, Belmez or Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo.

You should visit the village, where you can truly appreciate the authenticity and beauty of the area and its people.

The singular beauty of its nature makes this area a place where quality of life is the main objective and sustainable economy is a reality.

It is 85 km from Cordoba (50minutes) and the access roads are in excellent condition.
