Chimeneas

Chimeneas is a municipality located in the Vega of Granada, wide space studded with green tints of the fringes of poplars and manicured gardens, which are at the heart of the river Genil in its peaceful flow to the West, benefits both from its location in these fertile lands and the proximity of the ciudad de la Alhambra.

Apparently the origin of Chimeneas as a village dates back to Islam age. It was born as a farmhouse that housed several families with the name of Dulla. It was growing and becoming increasingly important and, after the conquest carried out by the Catholic Kings, it became a farmhouse dependent Granada. In 1789 he was granted its own municipality.

The famous earthquake of Alhama in 1884 and the one of Albolote in 1956 left traces in many buildings of the town. The first one ruined completely several houses and damaged the church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario. It was preceded to the reconstruction with funds of the national subscription to help to the victims.

How to get there

You have to exit Granada. Continue along: A-92G, then on Santa Fe. Crossing: A-92G / Carretera de Granada to Málaga. Continue straight on towards: Málaga - Sevilla - Aeropuerto. Exit Santa Fe and continue along: GR-SO-7. Continue towards Aeropuerto. Follow directions: Salida 230. Then you get Chimeneas.
