Chauchina

Chauchina can be found in the Vega of Granada, between poplar groves and well cared for orchards, on the banks of the river Genil. This natural enclave along the riverbanks offers excellent conditions for hiking around Chauchina itself, together with nearby Romilla and Romilla La Nueva. The town sits in an agricultural landscape, with many tobacco dryers, some still in use, these have been some of the most important buildings in the area, next to the farmhouses and farmsteads. It is also striking geometric parcel of land, this being the result of successive divisions of the land.

Coupled with the historical fate of all the Vega of Granada, the township until the eighteenth century was the union of two completely distinct neighborhoods, La Chauchina de Arriba and La Chauchina de Abajo. (upper and lower Chauchina)

Gastronomy

Calamares (fresh or dried), fried onion rings, frog’s legs, fried cod and asparagus omelet. As for handmade sweets, try those of the ‘Virgen del Pincho’, which are made by the nuns.

Leaving Granada. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit, continue along: E-902 / A-44 heading to Armilla - Motril. Take the exit towards: Exit 125 - A-92G - Malaga - Sevilla - N-432 Cordoba – From the Airport. Continue along: A-92G. passing Jardines del Caballo Blanco and Santa Fe Take A-92 heading to Malaga - Sevilla - Airport. Take the exit towards: Exit 227 - Chauchina - Fuente Vaqueros.arrive at Chauchina.
