Castilleja de Guzman - Sevilla

The little town of Castilleja de Guzmán is located in the western sector of the province of Sevilla and in the far eastern region of Aljarafe, leaning over the river Guadalquivir. In 1996 it had a population of 692 inhabitants.

The origin of the present town is probably Roman and its name derives from a fortified military camp or castra. Under the Muslims it was more important having lived in it for some time the leader Almanzor.

In the XIII century, after the Christian reconquest, it became the property of the Order of Santiago, in order to obtain the independence in the next century. Later, it came under the jurisdiction of the Counts of Olivares (Guzmanes), being already evidence that it was City Hall in the year 1,500.

In 1551, under the reign of Philip II, it appears as Castilleja de Alcántara, but in subsequent divisions, it changes the name by the one of Guzmán.

How to get there

You have to exit Sevilla, take: E-1 / A-49 towards Camas-Huelva. Then you have to cross Camas, local road, Avenida del Aljarafe and you get Castilleja de Guzmán.
