Benaoján - Serranía de Ronda

Benaojan is situated in the Serrania de Ronda, between the strong limestone massif of the Sierra de Líbar and the river Guadiaro. The natural environment of Benaoján is of extraordinary beauty and it lies within the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and only a few kilometres from Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the Sierra de Las Nieves. Benaoján has a group of caves of prehistoric significance, like la cueva de la Pileta, considered to have the most important collection of rock art in Andalucia.

The village stands at 564m altitude above sea level, in the valle de Guadiaro and covers an area of 32km2. It comprises two very different towns, Benaoján, or the major urban area and Estacion de Benaoján, running along the railway and the river. The total number of inhabitants is approximately 1683.

Benaojan is connected to Ronda by a local road that goes from a crossroad located two kilometres from the regional capital in the direction of Seville and by another local road with Montejaque (2km). From the latter, in the opposite direction, you will come to Cortes de la Frontera which is 16km distant. The Ronda railroad connects the municipality with the other cities in Andalusia by the Bobadilla-Algeciras line that crosses the region from north to south.

Gastronomy

Benaoján is famous for its centuries-old tradition in the production of sausages from pork loin in lard and chorizo in wine.
There are also the typical hot gazpacho and rabbit with garlic.
