The region of Aljarafe exhibits one of its most representative municipalities in Benacazón, on the Guadiamar valley and at an altitude of 113 metres. About 23 kilometres separate it from the capital in a municipal area that also includes the main core, Haciendas de Castilleja de Talhara and Gelo.

The total population of the municipality in 1996 inhabitants amounted to 4,936, most of whom are concentrated in the core.

Although there have found traces of the Late Bronze era, the real development of the area takes place under the Roman name being at that time a small village, with the arrival of Muslims, it survives as such, given the name of "Ben- A-casum ", which derives its actual name.

After the reconquest by Ferdinand III, it changed its name to "Celada, but it does not hold, returning to its old name.

In 1250 the town was awarded to Ms. Mayor Arias and the Bishop of Sevilla.
Later, in 1419 the villa passed to the Portocarrero, heirs of Doña Mayor Arias, and in that year it achieved the title of Villa and Benacazón Manor, with its first masters Don Luis Méndez Portocarrero and his wife.

In the middle of the XVI century it passed into the possession of the family of "Los Pantoja" until in 1810 lordships were abolished.

Gastronomy

One of the most typical dishes in Benacazón home is "chícharos y troncos" which is a stew of white beans with chard. Another dish is the "sopeao" or Andalusian gazpacho and we can also mention "the picaillo" which is a salad of vegetables that are usually eaten in summer.
As for the pastry in Benacazón we highlight the pestiños, ojuelas, torrijas, tortas de huevo, tortas de polvorón, tortas de aceite, etc.

How to get there

You have to exit Sevilla, in the area around Camas, take: E-1 / A-49 towards: Camas - Huelva. In the area around Umbrete, at the roundabout, take the salida 3 and follow: SE-629. Then you get Benacazón
