Bélmez de la Moraleda

Bélmez de la Moraleda is located in the foothills of Sierra Mágina, in fields of vineyards, olive groves and cereals. Part of its township belongs to the Natural Park Sierra Mágina that is part of the Subbética and where you can observe the lovely and spectacular landscapes. With regard to the vegetation, the most common trees are the holm-oaks, gall-oak groves, the Aleppo Pine and the Austrian Pine. It is also important its rich and varied fauna.

From 1501 Bélmez belonged to the city of Granada as a payment of some debts that the kings had with it, reserving the governorship of the castle to Lord Jódar. In 1524 Bélmez was founded villa, when some lands were ceded in rent to the farmers of this area, it was also known such as farmhouse of Fuente de la Moraleda. It belonged to the district of Granada until, immediately after the provincialization of Javier de Burgos in 1833, was included in Jaén.

The rostrums (the famous "caras de Bélmez") that appears in the floor in number 5 Rodríguez Acosta Street, constitute from 1971 one of the magical references in this place. The origin of the matter is still to bring to light, in spite of the numerous scientific studies which were carried out.
