Beires - Alpujarra Almeriense

Beires belongs to the Alpujarra in Almería, at the foot of Sierra Nevada, overlooking the valley Andarax, in an environment of rich vegetation of shrubs, fruit trees and orchards. It is included in the Natural Park Sierra Nevada, one of the natural paradise of the community due to its rich landscape, flora, fauna and anthropology.

The climate is very gentle, because the summer is not too hot and not too cold in winter. This, together with the delicious food and good water, led to frequent cases of longevity and a robust complexion of its inhabitants.

It is a town whose origin is not well known. It was won by the Catholic Monarchs to the Saracens without disruption to their neighbourhood in the enjoyment of their property, until that the rebellion of the Moors, ran the common luck, coming to be confiscated their property, which were distributed to different people from many points.

In the «Libro de Apeo», which is preserved in the municipal archive, defines the families who settled in this population.

The Festivals are held in honour of patron saint of Beires, San Roque, on 16 August. On 16,17 and 18 August regardless of the days of the week that fall, but for several years, celebrates the weekend closest to August 16.
