Antas is located to the East of , in the sedimentary basin of the River Aguas, that Waters its lands turned into an orchard of fruit trees, citrus and vegetables, surrounded by other arid terrains.
In its municipal area there are located many prehistoric sites that prove that this is a privileged place, among them we can mention El Argar, a real core of a culture that spread through the southeast of the Peninsula in the Bronze Age.
We also can mention other important elements, such as the aqueduct El Real, the Parish Church and El Cabezo de María.
The first settlements date from the Palaeolithic, some sites from the Neolithic were studied such as El Aljoroque, La Gerundia, el cabezo del Moro and La Pernera, in this place there was found a slate idol that is used like anagram in Antas. But where the town stands out is because it is the birthplace of the settlement El Argar, during the Bronze Age. In the Southeast it will be developed the Argárica culture among the years 1900 B.C. and 1300 B.C.like an organized town around a dominant oligarchy.
When the culture of Algar went out the area was not important, its population were very scattered. During the Roman and Al-Andalus period we cannot observe archaeological remains.
With the capitulations of Vera, in 1488, the inhabitants of Vera from Africa are obliged to change the position in the interior. There will be 50 families the ones who would move to Antas. It was formed a Moorish quarter dependent from Vera. In 1490 the inhabitants of Antas were accused of protecting the almogavars and they were about to be enslaved.
Alter the War of Las Alpujarras (1569-1570), its inhabitants were expelled, although they were not took part in the uprising. The repopulation was carried out with 63 inhabitants from Murcia, Valencia, Bilbao and Toledo. At first they lived in Vera because of the fear of an attack by the escaped and refugee Moriscos in the mountain ranges.
At the beginning of the XVIII century, Antas will obtain its independence from Vera.

Gastronomy
The gastronomy is one of the fields where the tradition is better preserved or where better has been combined the old with the new forms of diet.
We can mention some typical dishes like: pork products, the fried breadcrumbs, the caldo bordonero, the wheat, the pelotas, the gurullos, the porridge and the paprika.
With regard to confectionery and desserts we can taste: the rosco, rosquillos, mantecados (traditional Christmas sweet made mainly from lard), the talbinas, the porridges with milk...
And to accompany the meat “el vino del país (the wine of the country)” family made and preserving the tradition in its production.
How to get there
You have to exit Almería and take Rambla de Belen. In the roundabout, take the salida 1 and continue in: E-15 / A-7 towards: E-15 - N-340 - Murcia - Ronda de Almería - A-92 - Granada. Then take the exit towards: Salida 525 - Antas - Garrucha - Mojácar. Follow the signs until you get Antas.
