Alozaina - Málaga

Alozaina township is located between the Guadalhorce valley region, to which it belongs, and the Serrania de Ronda , 52 km from Málaga and 41km from the city of Ronda . The village is 386 metres above sea level, the average annual rainfall in the area is 700 l / m 2 and the average temperature is 17 º C.

Alozaina territory extends from Sierra Prieta in the north to the Rio Grande Valley, in the south, thereby linking the eastern foothills of the Serrania de Ronda in the Guadalhorce valley, two well differentiated areas that give these lands a remarkable diversity of landscapes.

Here you will find typical Andalusian architecture with beautiful streets of whitewashed houses decorated with flowers and a parish church which oversees the urban environment.  Alozaina was declared the prettiest village in Spain in 1977. Alozaina and the hamlets in the  Jorox Valley, have been producing splendid artisan craft work since ancient times, some of which can be seen in the  town offices, and the old forge.

The presence of man in this land goes back to the Neolithic period, judging by the traces left in the caves of Tajo de Jorox. But it is in the Roman period when the first traces of urban settlements and families can be found in the area of Ardite.

The origins of the current population are to be found in the period of Arab rule, a period in which the castle was built of which some ruins still remain. During this era the village was named Alhosaina , which means “small castle”. Within the Arab era, Alozaina exceeded the limits of the ancient Roman fortress, creating an urban area around it and some suburbs. After being conquered in 1484 by Christians, Alozaina settlement expanded around the castle. One of the stranger historical events took place during the rebellion of the Moors in 1570, when women captained by Maria Sagredo, faced a surprise raid by the rebel troops of  Zebalí.
