Aldeire

The beautiful town of Aldeire nestles in a beautiful valley formed by two slopes in the hills towards the north of the Sierra Nevadas, at 1,278 metres altitude, in the province of Granada (about 70 kilometres from the capital and 20 from Guadix ). The town belongs to the Marquis of Zenete together with seven other towns ( La Calahorra, Ferreira, Alquife Lanteira, Jerez del Marquesado, Huéneja and Dolar ).

The municiplity has an area of approximately 6,735 hectares, the terrain being quite hilly and uneven.

Many ancient civilizations have passed through the region; settlements dating from the Argaric era have been discovered. However, the origin of the current settlement dates from the Arab Andalusian period, the name coming from the Arabic "al-dair", meaning the monastery.

Gastronomy

In Aldeire many types of excellent sausages are homemade and there is a traditional recipe for pork with chestnuts and prunes. Because of its proximity to the rivers Benabre and Benejar the local farmers grow a wide variety of vegetables and fruit, the fruit used to make very good jam. Locally gathered chestnuts and almonds are also good.

Take the exit towards: Exit 312 - A-337 - La Calahorra - Puerto de la Ragua - Cherín - GR-820 - Charcher. At the roundabout, take exit 2 Continue along: A-337, direction: Calahorra - Puerto de la Ragua - Cherín. In La Calahorra, turn right: A-4125. Enter Aldeire.
