Adamuz - Córdoba

Adamuz is a village located at the north-east of the province of Cordoba, in the foothills of Sierra Morena. It is 32 kilometres from the capital and has an altitude of 240 meters above the sea level The surface of its municipal area is 334 square kilometres and in it we also find the village of Algallarín. The population of the district reaches the 4623 inhabitants.

Generally speaking, we can say that, as Adamuz's Prehistory is known at present, it starts at the Middle Paleolithic, though the materials of this assignment, some tools of sílex, are very few.

The following stages of the Paleolithic are absent for the time being, though certain pieces,coming from superficial finds and, consequently, without a trustworthy context, can make us think of the existence of industries of transition from the Upper Paleolithic to the Neolithic one, the Epipaleolithic, which had developped  approximately 10.000 years ago in Algallarín's zone.

The first signs of presence of Neolithic people, farmers and shepherds, manufacturers of the characteristic ceramic “a la almagra” so typical of Andalusia, at a moment that we can date between 4.500 and 3.500 before JC, has stayed in the interior lands, in a cave over the stream Cañaveralejo, which was also inhabited, centuries later, by people of the Calcolíthic, the initial phase of the Age of the Metals.

How to get there

From Córdoba take the motoway A-4 direction Madrid. Take the exit to Villafranca de Córdoba. From Villafranca the town of Adamuz is only 10 minutes.
